Wax On? What’s the Best Wax for Snowboarding or Skiing in Japan?

When it comes time to go snowboarding or skiing in Japan, you’ll want to make sure your gear is in the best possible shape. One way to guarantee you glide through the powder and stay ahead of the pack is by waxing for the conditions. Here are the best options available from Rhythm Tunes Workshop!

Rhythm Tunes Workshop treats every ski individually

1. Try the New Phantom Permanent Base Glide Treatment.

Rhythm Tunes Workshop is proud to introduce our customers to this revolutionary permanent waxless base treatment, exclusive to us in Japan. The system has been developed by DPS Skis primarily to decrease the impact that traditional ski and snowboard wax has on humans and the environment. Traditional wax includes perfluorochemicals (PFCs) which cause harm when inhaled and can also leach into the environment. Phantom promises to reduce the dangers associated with PFCs while still delivering the performance of traditional wax and providing mountains of glide, permanently.

The Phantom treatment in liquid form.

Phantom enters the ski or board base in liquid form and then bonds with the base under a UV light, hardening the plastic to increase gliding capabilities. This means it changes the chemical composition of your base while staying stable and non-reactive in the environment.

Bonding the Phantom treatment.

At Rhythm Tunes we’ll structure your base first to make sure it’s primed and ready for treatment. After applying the Phantom Glide we’ll pass it through our UV Station where it will be cured and then handed back to you in just a couple of hours. Phantom has been proven to work in a variety of different conditions, including those prevalent here in Niseko – deep, dry, cold powder snow. Find our Phantom machines at Rhythm Base, Rhythm Main and Rhythm Hakuba!

COST: Phantom CSF – ¥13,200 Curing of CSF – ¥ 5,000 Structure base prep – ¥3,000 Total ¥21,200 (includes base structure and prep, Phantom treatment and curing.)

2. Get More Out of Your Gear With a Performance Wax.

Hand ironing our house-made wax.

After a consultation with one of our technicians, your skis or board will be prepped with a base wax and left to soak. After this your bases are layered with our very own, house-made wax blend which is specifically designed to suit the current snow conditions. We use our infra-red Future Machine to permeate the wax into the base, then create a seal with an iron to maximize the longevity and quality of the wax. The individualised nature of this treatment allows us to cater specifically to each customer, so you know you’ll be getting the best out of your bases. COST: ¥3,000

3. Future Wax. Best if You Just Need the Basics.

Skis under infra-red light.

For this treatment we use an all-temperature wax blend from Italy and hand iron it into your bases. Then we use our infra-red Future Machine to create a seal. This service will suit most conditions and is recommended for beginner to intermediate skiers and snowboarders. COST: ¥2,000
